A quick look at our recent election coverage

We crunched some 2020 numbers

Last fall was a busy time for everyone working in elections, including our team. Leading up to November 2020, we worked with election offices across the country to help amplify their official, accurate voting information online. (You might have seen that official data published through VIP on places like Google or Facebook!)

We knew that we published information about a lot of polling places, early voting locations, and ballot drop-off locations last fall... but we didn’t stop to add up just how many. So recently, we crunched the numbers!

When we added it all up

For the 2020 General Election, we published approximately:

  • 14,000 early voting locations,

  • 23,100 ballot drop-off locations, and

  • 95,700 Election Day polling places

That makes a total of approximately 132,800 locations published by VIP for the November 2020 election. And frankly, that’s a number we’re pretty proud of!

We’re keeping busy in 2021

And we’ve continued our work throughout 2021! In even-numbered or odd-numbered years, VIP is always ready to amplify official election information.

So far this year, we’ve published data for 74 elections in 19 states.

Just to name a few

Georgia helped us ring in the new year when we published data for their federal offices runoff held January 5. In the months since, we’ve published official voting information for:

  • Big and small elections — We’ve amplified official election data for statewide primaries in New Jersey and Virginia; municipal elections in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska; and a city council special primary in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

  • All kinds of elections — We’ve covered special elections for a Wisconsin State Assembly District and for New Mexico’s First Congressional District; municipal primaries in Pennsylvania and Louisiana; and consolidated elections in Michigan and Illinois.

  • A whole lot of elections — We’ve published data for seven elections in Georgia, eight elections in Alabama, and nine elections in Oklahoma -- and many others not mentioned here!
